Séminaire GSD, "The onset of diffusion for a standard family of toral maps"

Résumé : We consider a two-parameter family (Fα,β) of analytic diffeomorphisms, often called "kicked Harper maps". These are the composition of a horizontal and a vertical skew-rotations on the torus, and they may be regarded as a version of the Chirikov-Taylor standard family with non-linear behavior in both directions.
They are probably the simplest kind of explicit examples where one has interesting rotational behavior. We will describe some first steps towards understanding the set of parameters where the rotation set is "large" (i.e. has nonempty interior), and in particular the transition from small to large rotation sets, which is surprisingly complicated.
