Séminaire GSD, "Cyclic orders and Schottky groups"

Résumé : Schottky groups are simple and explicit examples of discrete subgroups of PSL(2,C). I will explain how a similar construction works in the automorphism group of a cyclically ordered space, generalizing the PSL(2,R) action on the circle. An important class of examples is given by Sp(2n,R) which preserves a cyclic order on the Lagrangian Grassmannian. In this case, our Schottky construction gives precisely those subgroups which are images of representations of the fundamental group of a punctured surface with maximal Toledo invariant. This is joint work with Nicolaus Treib.
