From March 28 to 30, 2012, were held in the city of Dijon the journées SMAI-MODE, the biennial conference of the SMAI-MODE group of the Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SMAI).
This scientific event brought together on the campus of the University of Burgundy some 80 researchers, phd students, or industrials, who were able to present or discuss recent advances in the field of mathematical optimization and decision sciences. The international scope of this event is always affirmed as many countries were represented: France, Italy, Spain, England, Poland ...
With 41 oral presentations, 3 posters and 10 plenary lectures, the scientific program of these days has proposed a broad overview of mathematical optimization and decision sciences by addressing the following topics:
The days have received financial supports from Burgundy university, the Burgundy Institute of Mathematics (IMB), the SMAI, the "Conseil régional de Bourgogne", the Dijon city, CNRS, gdr MOA and EDF. This allowed to invite 10 speakers and industrials to give plenary lectures but also full support for hosting 15 young researchers. More generally, it allowed not to increase fees and thus facilitated access to the largest number of researchers.
Also, note that the provision of places of this scientific event has high visibility. Signs fixed or projected have aroused the interest of users of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Bourgogne, whether or not mathematicians. In particular, some students of bachelor or master had the opportunity to attend the plenary sessions to improve their comprehension of scientific English.
In conlusion, those days were a big hit with everyone. Wish the same to 2014 SMAI-MODE days to be held in Rennes in two years.
